A full‑scope post‑breach security analysis, log review, and incident response report.
Key findings include IPS detect‑only mode, exposed CIFS share, end‑of‑life systems, and flat network architecture.
I as the Director of IT led the Marvin the Martian SOC team through:
- Passive reconnaissance – analysed firewall, IDS, and core switch logs to reconstruct the attack timeline without touching live systems.
- Honeypot simulation – deployed a Tier‑1 Netcat listener (detected internal reconnaissance) and a Tier‑2 Cowrie SSH honeypot (captured simulated attacker commands, including brute‑force attempts and file downloads).
- Vulnerability identification – discovered critical gaps: IPS in detect‑only mode (1,271 exploit attempts allowed), an exposed CIFS share containing next‑gen anvil designs, end‑of‑life operating systems (Windows XP, Ubuntu 12.04/14.04/18.04), and a flat network architecture that enabled lateral movement.
The final report includes a detailed attack timeline, risk register, and a prioritised remediation roadmap with immediate, short‑term, and long‑term actions.
